What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers in Tucson are used to maintain volume in the face and thus restore (or prolong) a youthful, rested, healthy appearance. Dermal filler injections take only minutes to perform, and the cosmetic results are immediate.
Dr. Arianna injects the selected facial filler at sites where natural fat has depleted, the most common being the cheek bone area and the folds next to the nose (nasolabial), the lines running from the mouth toward the chin (marionette lines) and thinning lips.
The new generation of facial fillers is more practical than the animal-based collagens they are descended from, as the newer products are biocompatible, more versatile in their weights and densities, and last longer. However, most facial fillers are still temporary, and depending on the staying power of the product as well as the reaction of the patient. Touch-ups will eventually be required.
Dermal fillers instantly plump up nasolabial folds, marionette lines, perioral lip lines (smoker’s lines) and soft jawlines. They can be used as cheek fillers to volumize sunken cheeks or as lip fillers to augment thinning lips. They can also be used to correct scars, acne scars, and deeper wrinkles. Certain fillers can even be used to rejuvenate the backs of the hands.
No recovery time or downtime is needed after a filler treatment. Additionally, no prep time is required with fillers, though you may request topical numbing cold ice packs prior to the procedure.
Bruising may occur at injection sites. You should avoid aspirin and ibuprofen prior to procedure, and consider herbal Arnica Montana.

What is RADIESSE?
RADIESSE is a wrinkle filler used to plump the skin. RADIESSE is injected through a small needle and placed under the skin. Immediately, this filler works to add volume under the skin and over time, the benefits of Radiesse continue by naturally stimulating your body’s own natural collagen. The natural results have been shown to last a year or more in many patients, making the treatment results both immediate and long lasting.
Who can benefit?
RADIESSE is FDA-approved for correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Talk to your doctor about what your specific treatment needs may be and to see if RADIESSE is right for you. RADIESSE can be injected in the following locations*:
- Smile lines: Also called the nasolabial folds, these lines run from the corners of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
- Marionette lines: These lines run downward from the corners of the mouth.
- Corners of the mouth: Also called the oral commissure, if these are turned downward, it can make you look as though you’re frowning.
- Pre-jowl fold: These areas are on either side of the chin, where skin can sag due to loss of facial volume. Chin wrinkles are horizontal lines that can form on your chin and distract from your smile.
What can I expect?
RADIESSE is injected under the skin in a quick procedure that can be done over the lunch hour. RADIESSE is also FDA-approved to mix with lidocaine (an anesthetic), which means the procedure will be much more comfortable. In fact, in a clinical study, 90% of patients treated reported significant pain reduction when injected with RADIESSE mixed with lidocaine.
Immediately upon injection, RADIESSE restores volume to smooth out the signs of aging. The natural-looking results may last up to a year or more in many patients.
How many treatments do I need?
RADIESSE is the only dermal filler available composed of calcium-based microspheres, and has been shown to stimulate the natural production of collagen, for results that may last up to a year or more in many patients.
Additionally, in clinical studies with leading hyaluronic acid injectable dermal fillers, results showed that RADIESSE patients were more satisfied with their results than patients treated with other leading wrinkle fillers. In addition, 30% less RADIESSE may be needed for correction when compared to Perlane injectable gel.
How does it work?
Once injected, RADIESSE plumps the skin to give the appearance of a smoother surface. Over time, RADIESSE works to stimulate the body to produce collagen naturally. Ultimately the body absorbs the product and leaves behind the natural collagen for long-lasting results.
What is JUVÉDERM XC?
JUVÉDERM XC is a non-surgical filler your doctor uses to instantly smooth out the lines along the sides of your nose and mouth. It can provide natural-looking results for up to a year with optimal treatment. JUVÉDERM XC is made from a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), manufactured using proprietary HYLACROSS™ technology.
What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found on your skin. As you age, you start to lose HA, which causes the skin to lose structure and volume, contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds.
What are the different types of wrinkles?
There are two different types of wrinkles:
- Dynamic wrinkles are caused when muscles contract to make facial expressions such as smiles and frowns.
- Static wrinkles develop because our skin’s natural substances (such as collagen and hyaluronic acid), which provide structure and volume, decrease over time.
What is the difference between BOTOX and JUVÉDERM XC?
BOTOX Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM XC are two possible ways to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Both are non-surgical, but they work differently
- BOTOX Cosmetic: Injected beneath the skin’s surface to target the underlying muscle activity which is one of the causes of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet. BOTOX Cosmetic temporarily reduces the activity of those muscles.
- JUVÉDERM XC: Injected into the skin to temporarily smooth moderate to severe wrinkles such as those around the nose and mouth.*†

What is JUVÉDERM XC approved for?
JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler is approved for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, also known as parentheses or smile lines).
Am I a candidate for treatment with JUVÉDERM XC?
Do not use this product if you have severe allergies or a history of severe allergic reactions. You should also not use this product if you have allergies to lidocaine or the proteins used to make hyaluronic acid. Your doctor will determine if JUVÉDERM XC treatment is right for you.
What should I discuss with my doctor before getting treatment with JUVÉDERM XC?
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of excessive scarring or pigmentation disorders. You should also discuss any medications that you are currently taking that can prolong bleeding, or therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response.

How is JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler used in treatment?
Your doctor injects JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles such as parentheses (smile) lines and marionette lines.
What will treatment with JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler accomplish?
JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles around the nose and mouth such as parentheses (smile) lines. Results may last up to one year with optimal treatment.†‡

Is treatment with JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler painful?
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. JUVÉDERM XC is formulated with lidocaine for a more comfortable treatment experience.*1 Your doctor may choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.

How long does treatment usually take?
The injection process can be performed during a brief office visit. You’ll also need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment.
Does the correction last forever?
Correction is temporary and may last up to one year with optimal treatment. Therefore, touch-up injections, as well as repeat injections, are usually needed to maintain optimal results. Less material (about half the amount) is usually needed for repeat injections.
What are the possible side effects of JUVÉDERM XC non-surgical filler?
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reaction such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. JUVÉDERM XC and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC are different products approved to treat different areas of the face. Talk to your doctor to determine the treatment plan that’s right for you.
