Barbara-Cooper-updated-photo-e1452197053944Barbara Cooper, NP, CNM is a nurse practitioner and certified nurse-midwife involved with women’s health since 1986. She is passionate about her work as a healer, harnessing the body’s innate ability to heal when it is honored and well taken care of. She is thrilled to be a part of Team Tula!

Barbara started her career as a midwife, graduating in 1986 from Seattle Midwifery School as a Licensed Midwife. She graduated from Frontier School of Nursing and Midwifery in 1991 as a certified nurse-midwife and nurse practitioner, specializing in women’s health. She was part of a team of nurse-midwives who attended births at Tucson’s freestanding birth center and at Tucson Medical Center. Additionally, Barbara is a certified health and nutrition coach (graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition), and a certified yoga instructor (graduate of the Satchidananda Ashram in Virginia).

For the past 10 years, Barbara has worked primarily as a women’s health clinician and nurse practitioner, with a focus on women’s wellness and well-woman gynecology. She has many years of expertise in contraceptive counseling, including implants and IUDS. Barbara provides testing and treatment for STDs, UTIs, and vaginitis, as well as Paps and wellness exams.

Barbara is available for health and nutrition counseling, helping clients accomplish goals in a way that is exciting and empowering. Participating in a health coaching program can help you:

  • achieve and maintain your ideal weight
  • understand and reduce your cravings
  • learn about new foods and how you can easily make them part of your meals
  • increase your energy levels
  • feel great in your body
  • improve your personal relationships
  • discover the confidence to create the life you want

Additionally, Barbara is available for one-on-one yoga instruction, therapeutics-based and individually tailored to the needs and desires of each client. She loves to share this incredible practice with people of any age, shape, size, or ability. A yoga practice of postures, breathing and meditation can help you find balance in life and harmonize mind, body and spirit.

Barbara has two grown children, a son, Tristan, in Seattle and a daughter, Heather, in San Francisco, and a very cute but somewhat spoiled bichon/poodle mix named Tosh. She is an avid hiker, photographer and traveler who aspires to play piano well and speak Spanish fluently in the near future.
